winds die down over the archipelago, the capital - Victoria explodes in a kaleidoscope of
colourful celebrations.
Festival Kreol is the biggest and most important event of the Seychelles cultural calendar.
Organized by the Ministry of Community Development, Youth, Sports and Culture, its aim
is the preservation and promotion of the Seychelles culture in a world where the risk of
globalization threatens to eliminate national traditions.
This year it will coincide with the Victoria’s 230th
anniversary, our Capital.
The theme will be ‘One eye on the past, one on the
future’.
It will offer once again the visitors a fascinating week
full of the colours, sounds, flavours and fragrances of
one corner of the Creole world that treasures its
traditions while

The annual Sub-Indian Ocean Seychelles (Subios) underwater festival was held from the 6th
to the 12th of October and attracted once again diving enthusiasts from around the World
who came to find their inner-mermaid in our beautiful
waters.
SUBIOS is the annual underwater film and image
festival combining a range of daytime diving and
snorkelling activities with free evening programmes of
films, video and slide presentations by acclaimed guest
speakers from around the world as well as local ones.
The main attraction of the festival was the Treasure
hunt sponsored by STB and Kenwyn House. The
winner received a gift voucher from the well-known jewellery Kenwyn-House.
Elizabeth Fideria and Edward Snidjers received three awards apiece for their outstanding
performance in the different contests.
Mrs Fideria won the first prizes for best image shot in Seychelles and photo shoot-out. She
came out second in the image contest.
Mr Snidjers won the first prize for best video shot in Seychelles and two more prizes in the
video contest.
Prizes were also awarded to the winners of the Subios Man and Subios Woman as well as
the treasure hunt competitions.
The festival’s aim is to promote marine-based tourism in Seychelles and at the same time,
to sensitize the local population to the importance of the role of the marine world in
Seychelles’ environment. This year’s theme: “Wrecks as Ocean Habitats” hightlighted
their importance for underwater wildlife.

Frégate Island Private, the Seychelles’ pioneering eco
and conservation resort, has launched its fleet of 14
new solar powered guest buggies as part of an
ongoing drive towards achieving carbon-negative
status.
The new buggies will lead to a reduction in CO2
emissions of almost 42 tonnes per year: the equivalent
of seven years worth of emissions from the average
UK household, based on the recommended
conversion factors provided by the UK Government
Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs
as part of its Environmental Reporting Guidelines.
A multi-award-winning luxury retreat, Frégate Island
Private has spearheaded the development of ecotourism
in the Seychelles and is undertaking extensive
ongoing research into the application of emerging energy technologies to its resort
operation, in order to reduce dependence on fossil fuels.
All staff quarters already have solar-assisted hot water systems, and successful
experimentation in the use of pure coconut oil and recycled food oil is underway, with one
island tractor already running on a mixture of diesel and used frying oil.
Frégate Island has also reforested well over 80,000 local trees over the past decade as part
of its programme to restore natural habitats, and, with two trees planted for every new
arrival, the island boasts a guest: tree ratio of 1:17,600
