SUBIOS 2008 – 6 to 12 October
The annual Sub-Indian Ocean Seychelles (Subios) underwater festival was held from the 6th
to the 12th of October and attracted once again diving enthusiasts from around the World
who came to find their inner-mermaid in our beautiful
waters.
SUBIOS is the annual underwater film and image
festival combining a range of daytime diving and
snorkelling activities with free evening programmes of
films, video and slide presentations by acclaimed guest
speakers from around the world as well as local ones.
The main attraction of the festival was the Treasure
hunt sponsored by STB and Kenwyn House. The
winner received a gift voucher from the well-known jewellery Kenwyn-House.
Elizabeth Fideria and Edward Snidjers received three awards apiece for their outstanding
performance in the different contests.
Mrs Fideria won the first prizes for best image shot in Seychelles and photo shoot-out. She
came out second in the image contest.
Mr Snidjers won the first prize for best video shot in Seychelles and two more prizes in the
video contest.
Prizes were also awarded to the winners of the Subios Man and Subios Woman as well as
the treasure hunt competitions.
The festival’s aim is to promote marine-based tourism in Seychelles and at the same time,
to sensitize the local population to the importance of the role of the marine world in
Seychelles’ environment. This year’s theme: “Wrecks as Ocean Habitats” hightlighted
their importance for underwater wildlife.
